What We Learned

This past week we finished up our vowel review and went from me reading along with Luke to him reading to me. : D <<<<< My proud face. We worked on counting by two's, five's, and ten's and finished up on sorting. For science we studied everything trees and did a couple of cool leaf experiments. As the weeks go by they are becoming more hands on and Luke loves it. We are finally in a routine where I just need to tell him it is time for school and he knows exactly what he needs to do and I am just there to guide, unless we are learning something new, and it's wonderful :)

 

What We Learned

The past couple of weeks we have been focusing on long and short vowels and all the rules that come with them. It's really starting to make me wonder who came up with this thing called the English language and why in the heck they had to make it so difficult. But Luke is catching on real quick, which I knew he would, so I guess I can't complain too much. We have also been introducing word problems with math, and our extras have been rain and rainbows.

What We Learned

We learned about the seasons and what made them change. We talked about how we are in fall now and that during fall is when people pick apples out of the orchards and who better to talk about than Johnny Appleseed :)

We made fall handprint wreaths out of a piece of diaper box and construction paper and studied proverbs 10:5

For math we did sums up to 20 and for our extra we talked about our community who helps make it run.

For art we made paper plate apples and learned you can't leave Matalie alone with a paint brush :)

And for our explore day we visited our local fire station.

What We Learned

Since we started school a couple weeks ago I've been wanting to figure out a way to keep up with the lessons and activities we do each week. The easiest thing I can think of is to just post them here and that way you guys can see and take from it what you would like as well. Two birds...one stone...because I'm good like that :) So each week on Monday I will be posting a What We Learned from the former week. Here is what we learned last week:

 We reviewed letters A-O and learned how do pattern animals with blocks

 We reviewed colors and patterns and helped sister learn her colors

 We learned about scrolls and that they are what people use to write scripture from the Bible on and that they stored them in pots. Then we made our own pot.

 We did our first two lessons from "Drawing With Children" and I was shocked to see that he can draw almost as good as me :)

 Our science was Close To The Ground and for our extra we studied ants.

 We learned they live in colonies mostly underground and then painted our own thumb print ant colony
